About Us

The Court was established by Sections 275 – 279 of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Sharia Court Law Cap. 145 Volume III Revised Laws of Bauchi State madeapplicable to Gombe State by virtue of Gombe State Legal Notice No. 1 of 1996. The Sharia Court is an appellate Court which hears and determines appeals from the decisions of Upper Area Courts in the State pertaining to Islamic Law.

The Gombe State Sharia Court of Appeal started operation as a Court in the former Upper Area Court I at Tudun Wada Quarters Gombe.

The Court took off with Hon. Grand Kadi, 2 Hon. Kadis, Ag. Chief Registrar and 24 staff as follows:

The Court presently comprise of the Grand Kadi and four Kadis, Chief Registrar, two Deputy Chief Registrars and 158 other staff.        

In the year 2000/2001 two additional office Blocks were constructed. The old Court building, Hon. Grand Kadi and Hon. Kadis Chambers was renovated and paneled to accommodate some Kadis and other Senior Administrative Staff.
